The Lost Memories
“The Lost Memories” is a series of work I began in 2015 and have continuously worked on to this day.
Initially, I documented people, events, and receding scenery that were once familiar but have gradually become blurry and fleeting. I aimed to bind these memories, piece by piece, moment by moment, into my works as a reflection of my life.
In 2020, a few months after moving to this city, the world faced an unprecedented crisis. As I increasingly relied on the internet, I began sourcing images from the public domain as new material for my work. This shift marked a transition from personal emotional records to the exploration of universal human emotions.
I attempt to depict fragments lost in time; these images are projections of fleeting human emotions, akin to dreams or ephemeral thoughts. These moments exist at specific points in time, lacking contextual background—much like humanity’s fragmented and incomplete memories—radiating unease while reflecting the fragility and beauty of human emotions.
In the tenuous connections between images, memory, and reality, I explore the multiple relationships among them. As we attempt to record, memory becomes fragile and blurry. The connection between images, memory, and reality appears both tight and fractured. Can images truly represent memory? How is memory reshaped by the impact of reality? My work is simply a record and response to these questions.
